Ruling on Gifts or Cash Given to Youngsters
Question:- I want to know that when a guest or someone else gives money to children, or the money that relatives come and give when a child is born, or they give something like clothes or toys etc., what is the ruling about them? Can the parents or the siblings etc. use this child's money, clothes, toys, etc.?
Answer:- The ruling on the gifts given to children in their childhood will be based on the prevalent custom. If the custom is that these gifts are intended to be given to parents, and apparently given in the hands of children, like what happens during the Aqeeqah Dinner etc., then the parents will be the owners of these things; they will be permitted to use it however they want to. If those things are given by the relatives of the mother, then the mother will be their owner, and if it is given by the father's relatives, then the owner will be the father. If the prevalent custom is that the gifts are meant for the child, then it will be for them only. And if, in any case, it is made explicit about the one for whom these gifts are, like the child or the father or the mother, then the ownership will belong to the one explicitly mentioned.
