Unfair Distribution of Gifts Among Children
Question:- A father gave money to his two sons to open shops such that he gave ten million rupees to one son and one million rupees to the other. After some time, the first son was given a piece of land too, while the other was not given anything. Now, when the second son built a house with the profits of his shop, he was told that everyone will have a share in this house because when he was given money for the shop, he was told that everyone would have a share in this shop; the father and his three sons. While the first son, who also built a house with the profits of the shop, was told that he will be the sole owner because he has taken money from his shop. What is the ruling on this?
Answer:- It is important for parents to use equality in giving gifts to their children. If a father has discriminated among his children, then he has been unfair to those children whom he has deprived, for which he is answerable to Allah Almighty. Because in the Holy Shari'ah, parents are strictly forbidden from giving all their favors to one of their sons or daughters, hence if one must give gifts to his children in his life, it is necessary that he must do justice.
